Our History
Wanstead Park Preschool has operated from St Gabriel's Church Hall in Aldersbrook for over 30 years. Initially run by a group of local parents for their own children as a 'stay and play', it was incorporated as a charity in the 1990s.
Over the years, the setting has grown and adapted to changes in laws and regulations for childcare providers. From being a group of parent volunteers, our staff are now fully trained and qualified. We continue to value the experience that our staff bring from being parents themselves, and put a lot of emphasis on continuous professional development for our team.
Today, we look after children whose parents attended 'playgroup' as we were then known themselves and are very proud to be a part of the Aldersbrook community.
Our Organisation and Governance
We are a parent run and 'not for profit' childcare setting registered. We are registered with the Charity Commission, fully regulated by Ofsted, and a member of the Preschool Learning Alliance.
Upon enrolling a child into the preschool, the parents become members of the preschool, and we welcome the active participation of our families.
Day to day, the preschool is run by our manager Beni Cao, and a team of practitioners, and regular volunteers. We occasionally take on student volunteers.
Each child will have a key worker assigned who is the primary contact for the parent. All staff, volunteers and Committee Members are DBS checked. We train and educate our team on an ongoing basis.
The preschool is led by a committee of annually elected parent members, which consists of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. In addition to that, we have parent volunteers who are not trustees.
